Ayano's Story
Ayano began karate at the age of 9 years. Prior to moving to Hawaii from Singapore, she took a self-defense class similar to karate. She knew once she moved to Hawaii, she would seek something that involved physicality and discipline. After enrolling in the beginner's class at the University Square dojo, she has never looked backed since.
She loves karate because it allows her to express her emotions, personality, and agility through activities like Kata and Kumite. She also enjoys the social aspect and believes karate has created a new community of friends unlike any other sport.
Last year at the 2021 AAU National Karate Championships Ayano won 6 gold medals, 2 silvers, and 1 bronze. She also received 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal at lasts year's USA Karate National Championships. In this year's US Open she won 2 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal.
Her aspirations is to one day make the senior national team and represent the United States in the Pan American Championships and World Championships.
